Bio/Description:
I am a PhD student in the #2 nuclear physics program in the country, a state-licensed math and physics teacher for grades 5 - 12, and a former Princeton Review test-preparation instructor. I have gotten perfect quantitative and 99th percentile verbal scores on many standardized exams, and I am good at helping students realize fast gains on those exams, as well as at helping with mathematics and physics, and the college application process.
I have five years of college teaching experience, and have tutored in a writing center and, for two years, a center where students could come and ask any mathematics or physics question through the college sophomore level and expect an immediate answer. I have edited successful applications for college, graduate school, and various grants, including one successful Rhodes scholarship application.
As a high school student I had 6 perfect SAT II'S, a perfect score on the math section of the SAT I, and a 99th percentile score on the verbal section. I help with SAT/SAT II/ACT exam preparation by pointing students to the best resources, answering questions, teaching mental-mathematics tricks, and building student confidence.
I moved to Wellesley to join my wife, who works for the college, and our beautiful daughter, who enjoys the lake and the town. I have tutored privately in the Wellesley area and in the city for about a year and am happy to do what I can to help you, or the student in your life.

Ways to monitor and measure success:
I am good at helping students see fast gains on standardized exams scores, by tapping into what they have already learned and also inculcating confidence as well as an understanding of the game theory of the exam.
When tutoring in mathematics, physics, and other subjects, I believe in a methodical approach where I meet a student at the level of knowledge he or she has already attained and then build up from there, emphasizing the fundamentals and ignoring the rest until the fundamentals are understood and confidence in problem-solving ability has been created.
When tutoring students who are already very successful, I try to figure out what knowledge and skills they do not already have that will be valuable to them, and then deliver those things.
When editing applications and giving college application campaign advice, my goal is to help families identify where children will be successful and then help the student cogently argue for admission. I also help by pointing out weaknesses in student application essays.
