The gender gap in STEM education is not necessarily as evident abroad, reports this July 13, 2012 article in Education Week.
In some instances, says the article, international averages on global exams show no gender difference in math and science scores or no evidence that girls are outpacing boys.
One view is that the bigger US gender gap may be attributable to the kind of tests the US offers or to more self-confidence rather than to innate abilities or stronger preparation among boys.
