Mass Dropout Rate Lowest in Decade

The high school dropout rate in Massachusetts has dipped to the lowest in a decade.
That's according to a state report carried in The Boston Globe that says the high school dropout rate fell below 3 percent last school year.
The state's commissioner of elementary and secondary education Mitchell Chester warns that troubling gaps still exist between students of different socioeconomic backgrounds, with white students showing much lower dropout rates than Latinos.
Chester partially attributes the overall decline to more public attention on the dropout problem.
