How much homework help should a parent provide?

That was the question posed to Wall Street Journal columnist Sue Shellenbarger. "And what if you see your child making mistakes?" she reports. "Should you let your kids hand in homework that is wrong?"

Shellenbarger points out that the trend these days is to protect kids from making mistakes. But an expert in her article is quoted as saying that parents should model rather than intercede, helping out only when the teacher specifically asks.
